IWC presented a special edition of its Portugieser Chronograph created to welcome the Year of the Dragon, a special year according to the Chinese calendar.

Housed in a 41 mm x 13 mm stainless steel case featuring a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides, the new Portugieser Chronograph reference IW371629 is characterised by a burgundy dial with contrasting gold-plated hands and appliques.

Burgundy is a dark shade of red that takes its name from the wine produced in the Burgundy region of France. It is a deep, rich shade of red with undertones of purple or brown. It is traditionally used to welcome the Lunar New Year in China.

The chronograph is powered by the IWC-manufactured 69355 calibre, a robust and precise mechanical chronograph movement in a classic column-wheel design. The transparent sapphire crystal case back reveals the gold-plated rotor of the automatic winding system, depicting a beautifully detailed dragon.

Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) with a 46-hour power reserve, the movement takes the energy it needs from a bidirectional pawl-winding system similar to the Pellaton mechanism.

Water resistant to 30 metres / 100 feet, the Portugieser Chronograph Year of the Dragon is delivered with two straps: one black calfskin strap and one burgundy rubber strap, allowing the wearer to choose between two different looks. A butterfly clasp ensures excellent wearing comfort.
